Tibetan Scientific Soiety invites submissions for the ‘2nd School Tibetan School Science Essay Competition 2013’
Class XI-XII category
Topic: Myths and superstitions have long dominated human society. Scientific renaissance led to the emergence of an intellectually curious society that has challenged many of those beliefs. Identify one such superstition or myth that you find in your community or society, discuss how strongly grounded it is in the peoples’ lives and challenge it by resorting to scientific reasoning. You may discuss how scientific reasoning renders supernatural explanations unnecessary. You are not expected come to a definitive answer as long as you can spark and sustain an intellectually stimulating discussion.
Word Limit: Your article should not exceed 2000 words.

Topic: What motivated your interest in science? You may write about any particular incident or an event that provided you with the inspiration. For example, the inspiration might have come from a great teacher, a visit to a science museum, an observation of a technological marvel or simply a toy that you received on your birthday. You are encouraged to keep it personal as you tell your story.
Word Limit: Your article should not exceed 1500 words.

All submitted essays will be initially screened by an evaluation committee consisting of research scholars, scientists and science educators. The shortlisted essays will then be graded by university professors. They will be graded based on originality, focus, articulation, adherence to word limit and conclusions.
