Around hundred Tibetans, including high schoolers, university students and students from Buddhist monastic universities, gathered at the premise of Tibetan youth hostel in the South Indian city of Bengaluru from 15-18 December to participate in the fourth Tibetan Science Conclave.
Tibetan Science Conclave is a biennial workshop organized by Tibetan Scientific Society, a non-profitable and non-governmental organization founded by a group of young Tibetan science PhD students in 2008 with the mission of promoting advanced science education and research among Tibetans in exile. Dr. Kalsang Tharpa, a board member of the society and a scientist at Sabic Research and Technology, said, “the goals of the conclave are: 1) to provide a platform where Tibetans in scientific fields can interface with the larger global scientific community, 2) to provide opportunities for interaction and exchange of ideas among Tibetans in various scientific disciplines, 3) to encourage young Tibetan students to pursue exciting and innovative research in science by exposing them to the methodologies of research early on and 4) to facilitate open discussions on issues related to scientific and technological progress within the Tibetan community that will help in the evolution of a modern, self-reliant, Tibet.” The past conclaves, held in 2010, 2012 and 2014, were hugely successful and generated a lot of interest among Tibetan science aspirants.
